Overview Sample Description
The sample was collected at the edge of the Highland Acid Pits on Clear Lake Rd. The area is well known to be highly contaminated from years of dumping waste that has caused the water to become highly acidic. This is confirmed by my experience; the smell was strong. Wearing protective gear, I walked into the water and collected my sample from the depths of an eroded mound. There was a storm drain letting water into the pool that had visible rusting on the floor of the pool with red, metallic sediment all around it. There was no visible aquatic life in the pool, but there were several snakes surrounding the area. Next to the pool was a large generator, a mobile home community, and the Baytown Boat Club. I drove through a residential neighborhood to get to this location.
Date of Collection Fri, 01/24/2020 - 12:00 Semester of Collection Spring 2020 My Institution UH Results Number of Colonies of Paraoxon 3 Number of Colonies of Methyl Parathion 6 Location Geolocation for Sample 29.815194444444, -95.07875 Location Name Highland Acid Pits Location Street Clear Lake Rd Location City Highlands Location County Harris Location State Texas Location Country US Location Postal Code 77562 My Lab Section Monday Sample Result Classification Non-Cataloged Sample with POSITIVE Paraoxon POSITIVE Methyl Parathion
